Algae News Wrap Up: Obama pushes for green investment in algae biofuels as does the BIO

OilOnline interviews Dr. Tom Murphy, an associate professor of physics at the University of California. Who said “Of the biofuels, I am most intrigued by algae: mainly because it can be grown and moved about as a liquid medium in sealed tubes.”  He also talks to oil prices saying “I sense that plenty of people are waiting to cash in on green energy, and investment begins to flourish when energy prices soar.”

The Daily Caller reports President Obama made a poll-tested demand for higher tax payments from oil companies, to repeat controversial claims about U.S. oil reserves and to urge more spending on green-tech companies and on biofuels, such as algae.

MarketWatch reports on the letter written from the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) to the leaders of the House Armed Services Committee and its Subcommittee on Readiness. BIO President & CEO Jim Greenwood said, “The Pentagon has sought to decrease its reliance on foreign oil and increase use of renewable energy for a very simple reason: energy security is a national security priority.”
